Most states’ bar exams have three parts:
Multi-State Bar Exam (“MBE”), which is a multiple choice test covering Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Contracts and UCC, Property, and Torts;
Multi-State Performance Test (“MPT”),which provides students with a file of facts and a library of law and requires them to draft a legal document, like a brief or memorandum, analyzing the materials;
and
the Multi-State Essay Exam (“MEE”), which is an essay test covering Business Associations, Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Family Law, Federal Civil Procedure, Real Property, Torts, Trusts and Estates, UCC, Commercial Paper, and Secured Transactions;
or
the State’s Essay Exam, which is an essay test covering the bar exam subjects tested by the particular state.
Therefore, in most states, two of the three tests on the bar exam test a student’s legal writing skills. Many students graduate from law school without the writing skills they need to pass the bar exam. Much like law schools, most bar courses teach the subjects but offer little individualized instruction on how to write effective bar exam essays on the MEE or effective answers on the MPT.
I will work with you individually on the written tests on the bar exam. We will go over each practice answer you write, showing you how to edit your own writing, so your answer demonstrates that you understand the subjects.
